Kentucky Announces Sports Betting Launch Date 

Retail sports betting will kick off on September 7, followed by the launch of mobile betting on September 28.

Governor Andy Beshear has some great news for sports enthusiasts in Kentucky. While mobile betting will have to wait until September 28, retail sports betting will be available from September 7. It’s a long-awaited moment for sports fans across the state. 

Governor Beshear has been a strong supporter of legalizing sports wagering, and on March 31, he signed House Bill 551 to make it a reality. 

Kentucky is joining the majority of American states in offering sports betting, with only its neighboring state, Missouri, yet to embrace this thrilling pastime. So, get ready to place your bets and enjoy the excitement of sports betting right here in Kentucky this September! 

Beshear commented: “Bringing sports wagering to the state not only gives Kentuckians a much-anticipated new form of entertainment but also brings money to the state to support pensions, freeing up money that can be used to build a better Kentucky through the funding of education, economic development, disaster recovery and other necessary projects, like providing cleaner water, building roads and high-speed internet.” 

Starting from July 11, horseracing venues in Kentucky can now apply for a retail sportsbook at their main location or an authorized satellite location. These venues can also team up with up to three marketing platforms for mobile betting. 

This year’s Kentucky Derby saw incredible wagering activity, with a record-breaking $288.7 million (£233.9 million) bet on Kentucky Derby Day. This surpassed last year’s record of $273.8 million. 

Among the facilities eligible to apply for sports betting licenses in Kentucky are Newport Racing and Gaming in Newport, as well as Turfway Park in Florence. The future is looking bright for sports betting enthusiasts in Kentucky!
